“The project gave me concrete help in developing the social media communication of Minikai. In addition, the project gave me insights on the internal communication of the business. The students have been very flexible and the cooperation has been good, even though I work from Spain and the meetings have been held via Skype. It has also been rewarding to be able to offer the students a genuine experience in the work of an entrepreneur.”
Mini Johansson, entrepreneur, Minikai Inc.
Minikai Inc. is a family-owned company importing textiles and fashion, and running restaurants. Minikai has a web store, and restaurants and clothing stores on three locations.
Minikai seeked to develop the identity and visibility of the clothing stores in social media, and to create new ways to keep in contact with the customers. Minikai needed an established way of working in the social media, and a set of clear instructions on how the social media would be included in the sales staff’s duties. Emphasis was put on committing the sales staff and to offering tools for the social media work.
The Minikai project was tackled by five students of the University of Turku. The team members had studied e.g. business communication, human resources management, media studies, marketing and sociology. In addition, the team had experience in working in customer service, and a solid understanding on the social media.
The team was able to detect the problems and challenges, and to design a plan accordingly. The project allowed Minikai to adopt new tools for internal communication, and the sales staff was provided with concrete instructions on using the social media. The instructions included both technical advice and ideas for posts and campaigns. The instructions were designed for the Minikai clothing stores, but after the project it has been utilised in Minikai’s other business as well.
